A second sale to beat many first sales!
The second sale of hoggs and lambs at Junction 36 came at a time where the trade elsewhere was starting to wane, however trade today (especially for Mules) held up as well as the first sale.
Two very strong classes were shown today and were kindly judged by Ian Dixon, Kendal. The judge backed his judgment by purchasing the champion pen today from Winter Bros, Appleby selling to £430.
Texel hoggs varied more in trade today compared to the first sale, with a top price of £310 from MW&HE Pedley, High Ploughland. Reserve champion went to a pen of Texels from G&KM Atkinson, Colby making £280, the same firm had a multitude of the same goods at the same price, as well as some Mule hoggs upto £340 and top price Suffolk at £310. Total average of Texel hoggs with lambs came to £275.
A decent number of ewes and lambs today including a dispersal sale on behalf of Tom Fitton with his Blue Texels. He topped the trade today reaching £325 for a ewe with a single tup lamb.
There was a complete mixture of breeds today with large numbers of Herdwicks, Swaledales and Cheviots making up the largest share of the sale.

PRIME LAMBS - ‘Bouncing’

A very buoyant trade for spring lambs once again at Junction 36, with all types more sought after than last week and a lot more sought after than reports elsewhere.
Again, the lighter end of springers where the tastiest, however heavies were also met with a sharper trade and increased interest today. Texels sold to 387p/kg from C Bennett, St Michaels. Dorsets sold to 383.3p/kg for a pen of three. A further pair of Texels from C Bennett sold to 381p/kg and two Texels from JT&A Armistead, Selside hit 377.5p/kg or £151 for 40kg lambs. Dorset topped at £156 pound per head, these were from S Proctor, Selside.
Overall market average 349p/kg.

Contact Joel McGarva before next weeks sale, as more lambs are needed to match buyers demand.
